Week 10 of 12 · Launch
Getting clients
Milestone: Client acquisition plan. Format: Market, referral, and consultation practice.
Persona side project — your client list
Your Client Acquisition Plan is the roster with numbers: conversations per week, follow-ups, consultations scheduled. The list must be yours—named people, dated next steps—not a slogan about 'getting clients.'
Learning objectives
- Name a target client in one sentence (who, what pain, what you deliver).
- Build a 30-day acquisition plan: conversations, follow-ups, and a consultation script.
- Practice a discovery conversation that ends with a clear next step.
- Track referrals ethically—no buying lists of private data.
Core instruction
Target, not “everyone with a business”
Example: “Service firms under $500k who are behind on books and tired of Sunday-night spreadsheets.” Specificity is professional.
Plan components
- Where you will meet people: chamber, church professional group, veteran network, alumni, mentor introductions.
- What you will say in 30 seconds (not a speech).
- How you follow up in writing within 24 hours.
- How many conversations per week (a number you can keep).
Consultation
Listen first. Recap. Propose a next step: paid discovery, cleanup quote, or a polite no. Never leave a meeting with “we should talk sometime.”
This week’s work
- Submit a one-page client acquisition plan with weekly activity numbers.
- Write your 30-second introduction and a follow-up email template.
- Role-play one consultation and submit notes plus the agreed next step.
How we know you are ready
The plan is calendar-real. The intro is about the client’s problem. Next steps are dated.
