Week 8 of 12 · Launch
Build your firm
Milestone: Business setup checklist. Format: Entity, banking, and systems workshop.
Persona side project — your client list
Put your firm or employment identity on the roster header (name, email, QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise + BainconIT stack). Every outreach this week uses that identity. Add two names from a professional setting (mentor intro, chamber, church professional group).
Learning objectives
- List entity, banking, insurance, and policy decisions a new bookkeeping practice must face (as education, not legal advice).
- Choose a working tech stack: QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise, BainconIT licenses (training and after), secure file intake, calendar, invoicing.
- Draft a one-page operations policy: hours, response time, document cutoff, backups.
- Complete the business setup checklist with dates and owners (you, mentor, or “need advisor”).
Core instruction
Setup domains
- Identity: legal name, DBA if any, EIN process as taught, professional email.
- Money: dedicated business bank account; no mixing with rent money.
- Risk: general liability / professional discussion with a licensed advisor; you do not self-insure by hoping.
- Systems: chart of accounts for YOUR firm, engagement letter template, password manager.
- Policies: confidentiality, late documents, scope creep, refund of unused prepaid hours if offered.
Employment pathway note
If you chose employment rather than a firm, complete the same checklist as “what a quality employer should have,” and map your 90-day contribution inside someone else’s shop.
This week’s work
- Submit the business setup checklist with status: done / in progress / need licensed advisor.
- Attach your one-page operations policy.
- Name your software stack and why each tool exists.
How we know you are ready
Checklist is complete, not decorative. Items that require an attorney, CPA, or insurance broker are labeled as such. Systems match a service firm, not a hobby.
